100508 8226r22 viewsNelson Point, BHP Billiton's Goninan GE CM40-8M unit 5650 'Yawata' serial 8412-07 / 93-141 rebuilt from AE Goodwin M636C ALCo 5481, cab side shot shows Hi-Ad bogie, modified handrail and black side loco numbers, only 5639 and 5650 carried black numbers till retirement with the original repaint 5632 having its black numbers changed to white. 8th May 2010.

100508 825020 viewsNelson Point, BHP Billiton 'Pumpkin' unit 4328 was built by Electro-Motive as an EMD model SD70ACe for the BNSF railroad in the USA with serial 20066862-057 but was sold to BHP while under construction as one of ten similar units to be diverted to BHP in an all over BNSF base orange earning them the nickname of 'pumpkins' after the BNSF livery. They were standard US domestic units and required substantial modifications to be afforded lead unit status for BHP. This elevated view shows the tropical roof, non-slip paint on the hood, marker lights and modified sand fillers, rear end plough, fire suppression tanks and dual handrail. 8th May 2010.

110208 9328r20 viewsBing Siding, BHP Billiton's 4354 'ANZAC' an Electro-Motive built EMD SD70ACe unit with serial 20088019-008 from the fifth order of nine locos built in London Ontario. This image shows the ladder stirrups on the nose have been removed and there has been a trial set of sliding gates fitted to the gate to prevent a fall from heights when the step well plate is installed. This style of handrail didn't last long. 8th February 2011.

110208 9356r19 viewsBing Siding, empty trains lined up awaiting departure time with a display of a standard BHP Billiton EMD SD70ACe 4351 'Broken Hill' serial 20088019-005 and a modified domestic USA EMD SD70ACe 4332 'Integrity' serial 20066862-061, both units were built at London Ontario by Electro-Motive, 4332 has been modified as a lead unit by a number of modifications like dual handrail, bifurcated hose bag, tropical roof, marker lights of which all of these are visible. 8th February 2011.

It leads CM40-8M unit 5649. 4305 was traded back to Progress Rail and sent back to the USA in January 2015. 18th March 2011.

110318 9580r12 viewsGoldsworthy Junction, BHP Billiton 4319 'Jarturtu' serial 20058712-006 and EMD SD70ACe/LC built in London Ontario by Electro-Motive in the second order of units for BHP. The unit is heading up an empty train on the 'Avoidance Road' with second unit being 4307 from the original unit order. Jarturtu is an Western Desert Aboriginal word for tree or gum tree. 18th March 2011.

110406 9788r18 viewsGoldsworthy Junction on the Avoidance Road is second unit BHP Billiton Electro-Motive of London Ontario built EMD model SD70ACe locomotive 4333 'Karlkula' with serial 20066862-062 was a standard USA domestic ordered for BNSF railroad but diverted and sold to BHP, ten units completed this order and 4333 has been modified to a lead unit by a number of modifications like dual handrail, bifurcated hose bag, tropical roof, marker lights and fire suppression of which all of these are visible in this view. 6th April 2011.

110414 0104r14 viewsFinucane Island, bit of history in this image, the second unit has been returned to the USA, the white index waggons are no longer used, the road way has been moved well left of this and a second track no occupies this road and the HBI plant in the background has been demolished. BHP Billiton's 4315 'Mijarrpa' serial 20058712-002 from the second order of EMD SD70ACe/LC locomotives built by Electro-Motive in London Ontario in October 2006 leads a loaded train towards the car dumpers at Finucane Island on what used to be the Goldsworthy Mining Ltd mainline. 14th April 2011.

110414 0127r17 viewsBoodarie, loco prep shed see BHP Billiton 'Pumpkin' unit 4326 'Spring' serial 20066862-055 being prepped on 9 Road with the FMG dumper road in the background. 4326 was built by Electro-Motive at London Ontario originally for BNSF railroad of the USA but was part of an order for 10 standard domestic USA model SD70ACe units diverted to BHP in BNSF base pumpkin orange. The ten units underwent a significant upgrade program to see them become lead unit capable. 14th April 2011.

Note the lack of nose grab irons, the unit also has two new EMD type roof mounted antennas, a larger antenna at the rear, no grabs on the rear, no grabs behind the inverter area and has additional access openings in the side railing, just a few details of note. Window protectors have not yet been installed and step well guards will be installed in Australia.

130720 1872r23 viewsGoldsworthy Junction on the Avoidance Road is another loaded bound for Finucane Island behind 4407 serial 20118685-005 from the ninth order of twelve EMD SD70ACe/LCi units built by Progress Rail Muncie. They are the second order to feature the hinged top rail for the front step area. The second unit is an CM40-8M 5659 with less than two years left before it was scrapped. 20th July 2013.
