FMG ordered twenty eight of these units from Wabtec, all rebuilt from former BNSF 9-44CW locomotives and they have kept the original build dates and serial numbers of the former units. FMG 108 was originally BNSF 4795 built back in June 1998 with serial number 50649.

BHP Billiton bought the first SD70ACe type locomotive with this feature, and as such this loco was sent for testing to the Pueblo Test Track in the USA prior to delivery. EDI personnel are fitting the unit out since arriving only the day before. 2nd April 2007.
