RT 5 built new by Newport Workshops September 1957. The VLBY which is the Wangaratta parcels waggon started out being built by Newport Workshops October 1956 as a VP type VP 148, in May 1979 re-coded to VLPY, re-coded again in 1982 to VLBY.

Here it idles away next to TSB 2 building awaiting a path out of Nelson Point yard with the 'Recycle Rake' bound for the dumper at Finucane Island 1945 hrs 17th August 2004.

050110 140552r158 viewsHaving departed Ibis Siding five minutes earlier double General Electric built C44-9W Hamersley Iron units 7069 serial 47748 and 7077 serial 47756 work a 230 loaded waggon train heading north between Ibis and Gull sidings. Above the two locos the east mainline can be seen in the background which was part of the second last duplication project from Gull to Tunkawanna and is a single track section with only passing tracks being on the original west mainline section. Monday 10th January 2005.

050110 175658r158 viewsHarding Siding, 42 km on the Cape Lambert line, following a hot box alarm an empty Deepdale bound train headed by triple General Electric built C44-9W units 7085 serial 47764 in owner's Hamersley Iron livery, 9402 serial 53456 in Robe River Pilbara Rail livery and 7061 serial 54768 in Hamersley Iron Pilbara Iron livery have cut off and pulled into the siding with eight waggons of the consist. The locos of the loaded train 7069 and 7077 can just be seen to the left of the signal are cutting off the defect waggons. The loaded train is stabled on the mainline track. Monday 10th January 2005.

Comeng WA ALCo rebuild CE636R unit 9426 has already been sent to Perth and sister 9427 is stripped and ready to follow. The other units behind 9427 are ALCo M636 9416 and C636 units 9413, 9415 and 9412. 9th December 2006.

The rail is moulded 136 10 VT NIPPON 2014 4 which translates to 136 Ib/yard (or 68kg/m), 10 for Low Alloy, VT for processes of hydrogen elimination as Vacuum Treated, NIPPON is the manufacturer Nippon Steel, Japan, 2014 year rolled and 4 is month rolled.
