Converted to IA type in the 1930s then in June 1967 it was converted by Ballarat North Workshops into the underframe for RT 41.

RT 49 started out as I waggon 7507 built by Victorian Railways 21-02-1905, converted to IA in 1936, then K 85 in April 1955 and in 1969 to the underframe of RT 49 by Ballarat North Workshops.
