Here BHP Iron Ore CM40-8M unit 5639 'Corunna Downs' serial 8281-03 / 92-128 idles away in the backtrack awaiting its path back to Port Hedland with flat waggon 6703, four fuel tank waggons and a broken ore waggon. The lead unit was originally Comeng NSW built ALCo M636 5489 serial C6084-5, while second unit 5644 was originally a AE Goodwin built ALCo M636 5471 serial G6047-3.

Budd in 1939 numbered 301 as the Silver Star as a diner-parlour-observation coach on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad's General Pershing Zephyr train from the 1930s and 1940s. Donated to Mt Newman Mining Co. by AMAX an original joint venture partner to commemorate the projects first 100 million tonnes of iron ore railed between Mount Whaleback mine and the Port Hedland port.

247-03210 viewsCape Lambert, Robe River's 9426 a Comeng WA rebuild from ALCo Schenectady NY model C636 serial 3499-3 originally built in January 1968 for Pennsylvania as #6332, Penn Central 6332 and finally Conrail 6782. Purchased in 1986 and rebuilt by Comeng WA into C636R before delivery to Robe in November 1986. This loco also went on to become DR 8401 for construction of FMG's railway in 2007-08. Seen here in the South Yard waiting to drag a loaded rake down to the car dumper. Approximate location of train is here. 22nd May 2002.

The small units each side of the mainline is a Cold Wheel Detector. As the trains are running down a 5 km long 1.5 percent grade the trains are under dynamic and train brake control to maintain the train speed below the limit. GeoData.
